energy runs the world

Energy is everywhere...it runs our world. Without it, we could not survive. Most of this energy comes from the sun, but none of it is free. We have comforts in our society today that we did not have 100 years ago. The air conditioner, oven, toaster, light lamps, car heat etc. are all kept at desirable temperatures.

Coal, Oil, Natural gas and fossil fuels provide 90% of the energy we use. A lot of fuel we use go towards our cars. Without the energy that fuels our cars, we would be lost. The number of cars on the planet is increasing 3 times faster than the population growth.

Light is probably the most used energy resource. Every activity, big or small, needs light unless you were robbing a house or something. Lots of our coal and fuel go toward light bulbs and electrical systems.

Energy lights our cities. Energy powers our vehicles, trains, planes and rockets. Energy warms our homes, cooks our food, plays our music, gives us pictures on television. Energy powers machinery in factories and tractors on a farm.

Energy from the sun gives us light during the day. It dries our clothes when they're hanging outside on a clothes line. It helps plants grow. Energy stored in plants is eaten by animals, giving them energy.

Above is a graph showing how energy is used in our daily lives.
