If Your House is leaking air

It is very easy for your house to leak air. Windows play a very important role in insulating your house in the right way. Insulation is rated by R-value. The "R" refers to it resistance to winter heat loss or summer heat gain.

Text Box: You have to utilize working shutters, interior or exterior, to control heat gain or loss from windows.  Insulating can reduce your bills up to 10%. Excess soot or badly adjusted burners can increase fuel bills for an oil furnace by 25%.  "Weatherizing" your windows can be done in many ways. There are many R windows to chose from.

Text Box: The bigger R value you have, the more thermal resistance you will have inside the house that rebound inside, there conserving more heat. Each R value has a different amount of thickness. A single glazed window has a resistance of one (R-1) and a double-glazed window is R-2. A six-inch thick batt of fiberglass is rated R-19.
